There are several city initiatives and long-term objectives which are impacting our area and will be changing the way that residents interact with our roads. In the long-term, DC has objectives to reduce car dependency from 43% to 25% of commute trips and the Vision Zero safety initiative. These objectives have resulted in multiple projects that are investing city resources in our area where working constructively with DDOT and other city planners can result in significant improvements for residents.
In our area of Ward 3, we are blessed with Red-line access to MetroRail services with several stations to choose from including our local Van Ness/UDC station. Bus service has been scaled back during the pandemic along the Connecticut Avenue corridor which poses a problem for those who are dependent on it for transportation to their place of work, school, or worship. Restoration of bus service (by reinstituting the L1 and getting increased frequency of the L2) should be a critical goal for supporting multi-modal transportation.

Safe Routes to School Action Plan Funding - As an ANC member I would encourage the ANC to be active in seeking tactical improvements/allocations from the general fund for things like HAWK signals, raised crosswalks, or other traffic calming infrastructure improvements in the areas near our parks and schools.
The big streetscape projects include local projects like sidewalk improvements, restoration, and installations on Nebraska Avenue, portions of Linnean Avenue, Brandywine St, the Environment Assessment & potential redesign of Broad Branch Road between Linnean and Beach Drive, and the broader Connecticut Avenue plan. It is critical that our ANC members are willing to work closely with DDOT to ensure that the formulation of the plans and final execution are best situated to address resident concerns around road and traffic safety.
