Crime & Public Safety
Our community is part of a major metropolitan city in the US and is exposed to crime like other cities. Citywide crime trends indicate increases in property crimes such as motor vehicle theft and homicides in the last two years. In Ward 3 we are blessed with substantially lower crime rates than the city, but that doesn't mean we are crime free. We had increases in violent crime but decreases in property crime in the last two years. The previous ANC 3F area followed the Ward 3 pattern, but deviating with increases in Motor Vehicle Theft/Theft from Auto as well.
As an ANC member I will work with the ANC and MPD for our Police Districts to make sure that our community continues to be a safe place to live and raise our families.
Ensuring accountability and follow up for significant events
While police authorities are not the solution to every problem or disagreement, when a major crime occurs, I will work with my other ANC members to follow up on these events with local MPD leadership. I believe that forging a strong partnership with local MPD leadership is important for raising concerns that community members have.
Engaging with the Community to do our part
In our old neighborhood, the Eckington Parks service sponsored periodic "clean street" days to organize volunteers & city bulk trash pick-up services to help maintain the neighborhood. As an ANC member, I will look for ways for the ANC to encourage community member interaction and engagement in keeping our streets and parks clean.
